In order to become an RSA registered driving instructor you will need to hold driving instructor qualification, to apply you must meet certain criteria where you must submit as a minimum, the following...
- Basic personal details including name, address, and date of birth
- Your personal public service (PPS) number
- Details of any convictions
- Your driving licence number, including licence categories and number of years held etc.,
- Preferred testing location
- Language requirements. i.e., English or Irish language
- A current passport-style photograph
- Once you application is processed successfully, it would be recommended to undertake training.

ADI Test Briefs... Stage 1: Theory Test
The theory aspect of the ADI test is quite similar to the theory test for learner drivers, but will also include questions directly related to driving instruction, basic tuitional matters and the ADI scheme.
ADI Test Briefs... Stage 2: Driving Test
The stage two is a practial driving test similar to the learner diving test however over a longer duration and with less allowable faults for trainee ADI.
ADI Test Briefs... Stage 3: Instruction Ability
For the stage three you as a trainee ADI must give meaningful tuition to an ADI examiner who will act as a pupil and the nominated stages, as a learner driver and at a more advanced stage of the learning process, in a practical, on-the-road setting. It should be noted that all three stages of the ADI test must be passed in order to be successful and become an ADI, you can repeat any section test as often as required, however all three stages must be successfully passed within a 2 year period to qualify as an ADI and give tuition for reward.

- Setting learning climate & rapport by introducing a lesson in a courteous & friendly manner
- Lesson planing, stating clearly the lesson at hand including sub skills
- Matching tuition to learners ability, suitable for the stage of learning implementing a range of techniques
- Identifying and analysing driver faults, at appropriate levels, including remedial instruction in a timely and courteous manner
- Giving pupil feedback on performance, in a balanced and timely manner, including effective pupil support
- Imparting effective and correct information in a clear & concise and timely manner
- Management of lesson, i.e., conducts and controls the lesson appropriately, including safety, attitude & behaviour, time management
- Concluding the lesson, e.g. lesson recap and debrief, brief Q&A summary, next lesson plan information , etc., etc.,
